Nicholas Sparks
1965년 미국 네브라스카주 아마하에서 태어났다. 노트르담대학의 육상 계주 선수였던 그는 시합에서 부상을 당한 뒤, 여름 내내 재활치료를 받으면서 첫 소설을 쓴 것이 계기가 되어집필을 시작했다. 경영금융을 전공한 그는 1988년 수석으로 대학을 졸업한 우등생이기도 했다. 그러나 이듬해 결혼 후 부동산중개, 웨이터, 치과의료기 세일즈 등 여러 직업을 전전하다가, 1990년 올림픽 금메달리스트인 빌리 밀스와 공동 집필한 『보키니』가 첫 해 5만 부가 팔리면서 본격적인 창작활동을 시작했다.
