보기만 해도 웃음이 절로 나는 이 책의 그림을 그린 저자 Eileen Christelow는 사진 작가로 활동하다가 동화 작가가 되었다고한다.다섯명의 아기원숭이와 엄마가 강가로 소풍을 갔다. 엄마가 잠든 사이 다섯명의 원숭이가 나무위에 앉아서 악어아줌마에게 "날 잡을수없죠?"하며 약을 올린다. 그런데 한명씩 아기 원숭이들이 없어져서 나중에는 한마리도 나무위에 남지 않게 되자 설마 악어아줌마가 아기원숭이들을 다 잡아먹었을까 하는 의심을 하게 하지만, 마지막엔 다섯명 모두가 나무잎사이에 숨어 있었다는 알고 안도의 한숨을 쉬게하는 재미있는 줄거리와 함께 숫자공부도 할수있는 작품이다.
